The Swazi® Tahr Anorak is one of our oldest designs and is as relevant today as the day the first one came off the line.  Proven time and time again in the field the Tahr has some great features that have made it the timeless classic that it has become.
  • Made in New Zealand from a three-layer AEGIS® fabric, it's soft, light, very quiet and of course very waterproof.
  • The hood makes an adjustable peak, stiffened with both a durable liner and a hood wire to enable excellent peripheral vision and exceptional water shedding.
  • The radical upper body design gives amazing freedom of movement.
  • YKK zip with enclosing storm-flap allows for instant temperature & ventilation control.
  • An easy-access, extra large bino pocket with elasticated bullet loops for all those must-have items. The pocket also has a unique drop stitch to allow any collected water to easily drain away.
  • Draw-cord for simple waist adjustments.
  • Touch-tape on soft cuffs ensures sleeves stay where you want them to.
  • Side vents for unrestricted walking and climbing movement.

Possibly the best rain gear in the world

I live on the west coast of Canada and have hunted British Columbia for over 40 years in the wetest and in some of the remotest parts of the planet.
There are many rain gear companies here in B.C.. After trying what I thought were the best I bought the Swazi Tahr and I will say it is the best rain jacket I have ever owned. Period.

    The perfect year round protection

I have owned my Tahr Anorak for over a year now and use it in every season here in the northeastern USA. From cold, snowy winters to hot, humid summers it out performs any other outerwear I've ever owned. Any time I'm wearing it hiking or just out and about people stop me to ask about it.

    Perfect for Scottish stalking

Best jacket I own . I am professional stalker in Scotland and use my tahr daily right through the season. It's the only jacket I own that keeps me dry on those really wet stalking days.

    A garment that lasts....

I bought my Thar Anorak in 2000 and its still going strong, other than the small rips I have put in other jacket like it ,and it's quiet for stalking too because of the soft texture on the material used.

    You only need a Tahr

Unlike other jackets I have owned the Tahr Anorak doesn't leak and keeps rain, snow and wind at bay. Tough when crawling through scrub and at hit with the ladies at the pub. You only need to buy one jacket for the rest of your life, make sure its this one.

    I love my Tahr

I have had my Tahr Anorak for about 4 years now, it's never let me down once. easy to clean and take care of, fantastically waterproof, and above all very quiet and comfortable. I'm pretty sure my one being nearly 5 years old is the old gore-tex material so the new ones might be even better.

Perfect for stalking in the Scottish Highlands

I have used my Swazi Tahr Anorak almost on a daily basis since purchasing the garment in august last year. It has performed like no other Anorak I have ever used. The waterproof qualities are unbeleavable even when crawling in wet peat in on the wettest days in north west sutherland it will keep you dry and warm. I suggest that you wear the Swazi base layers and a micro fleece below and you will be ready for all that mother nature can throw down in liquid form. You need look no further for a durable waterproof Anorak than on this page.

    Best wind/waterproof garment ever owned!

I'm a gamekeeper at the foot of the Yorkshire wolds & bought the Thar to keep me warm on my quad bike when feeding up! I am delighted with the anorak which has transformed my early morning outings in any weather! I was so pleased that I have since bought a base and mid layer Swazi! Fantastic product

    Simply the best.

    Simply the best.
The Thar is the best hunting and fishing coat I’ve had, bar none.
I’ve tried two others from the opposition over the last few years but this pisses all over them both in every way.
    Simple, strong and functional.
    Highly recommended.
    Simply the best.

I have lived in the Thar

My Thar was obtained in 2009. It has been to S/E Alaska 4 times. Two canoe , a back pack and a boat hunt(s). Rain and snow and snow and rain, wet. During a 5 day Alpine hunt the Thar only was off when I was in the sack. The Thar dried / drained when out of the rain. This Thar has been used in Idaho as my must carry outer garment for wind and wet protection. The hood allows adjustment for a balance of protection and visibility. The bullet loops give a quick 2 shot reload. My wife likes the "Mid evil" look. I like dry and warm.

I bought this having had only very wet experiences with the similar looking but far inferior ridgeline counterpart, what an awesome piece of kit, I thought I would cook in it, but it's so breathable, and yet warm, a joy to wear from the word go, if there were 6 stars available it would get them all.

Aegis 3-layer Whisper - brushed polyester outer, Swazi Aegis® membrane, tricot knit inner.  Durable Water Repellent coating (DWR).
100% Waterproof, windproof and breathable.
Approximate weight 1kg

About Swazi AEGIS®:
The AEGIS® membrane has been developed to meet the extreme performance levels we require from our wet weather and windproof garments.  It is a breathable microporus membrane which is laminated between a face fabric (outer shell) and an inner lining.   The AEGIS® membrane allows moisture vapour from your body to transfer from your base and mid-layers, escaping before it becomes perspiration thereby keeping you drier and warmer.  The pores in the AEGIS® membrane are large enough to release the microscopic vapour molecules, but are too small for the larger molecules of rain, sleet and snow to get through.

The outer layer of the AEGIS® fabric is treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) coating which increases the surface tension of the fabric thereby causing water to bead and run off the garment rather than being absorbed.  Over time the DWR wears off but can easily be refreshed by re-applying with DWR treatments such as Grangers XT spray.

AEGIS® garments must be washed often to ensure the pores in the membrane do not become blocked.

Do not store your garment when it is wet, dirty or sweaty.

  1. Zip & secure all closures.
  2. Machine wash on warm with washing powder.
  3. Do not use fabric softener.
  4. Hang to dry or tumble on warm.

Can be dry cleaned - ask your dry cleaner to use clear solvent and to apply a fluoropolymer based water repellent to the outer fabric.

Not a bulletproof vest!
Swazi AEGIS® fabrics are very waterproof and incredibly durable, however, like ALL fabrics they are not indestructible or bulletproof.  They can be punctured by sharp objects like barbed wire or spiky vegetation and when the fabric is punctured it will leak.  Mostly these tiny puncture holes are not visible to the human eye, but can be detected in our water testing lab.  Our advice is be extremely careful of sharp objects – the general rule is if it can pierce the skin on the palm of your hand then it can also pierce the membrane in your garment.
